This small but vibrant community is pro-active in petitioning the government for assistance towards improvement and sustainability of the area. The foundation’s founder, Maryanne Chiriboga, is an American citizen residing in Ecuador over 7 years. She has a masters from Hope International University, Orange CA., in International Development and first came to Ecuador as a missionary. Immediately falling in love with Playa Africa upon seeing it for the first time, she saw the potential for ecological tourism and as a resource for students and public alike to learn about Ecuador’s rich cultural past.
